For Stan Kenton, et al..

Is the whole subgenre of "bachelor pad music" basically just a bunch of white guys in big bands doing bebop?

the problem with Stockhausen (liner note whore chronicles)

I'm doing a paper on Gesang der Junglinge (comparing it with Berio's Thema: Omaggio a Joyce in terms of manipulated voices) and of course the only place you can find any of Stockhausen's non-KONTAKTE early work on compact disc is his own website. I don't begrudge the man control over his vast body of work but they are rather pricey. Yay libraries! Of course when thumbing through the rather extensive liner notes I changed my mind. Exhaustively detailed tome-esque liner notes connote worth it!

the arcade fire

Took me long enough but finally I have a found a new favorite song that's got me flailing all over the universe! Fills me up with good feelings like a favorite song should: "Neighborhood #3 (power out)" by The Arcade Fire. They remind me of Animal Collective and also the Elephant 6 collective.

liquidator brunt

That is the DS9 character my boss would be if we were all living out our lives as DS9 characters. I've got DS9 on the brain lately, having finished watching the DVDs in their entirety (minus a few of the lamer episodes and plenty of fast forwarding thru the ducat/winn and ezri/julian romances in s.7) for the 3rd time in 3 years. Or is it the 2nd time? I forget.

Now I'm starting to re-watch Buffy...I'm saving Lost for winter break. come hell or high vacation time usage, I'm taking 2-3 days off minimum. I need the time to cram for my musicology mid-term. I worry about this class. I worry about myself in this class. I'm not doing all the work I should be doing. I'm bored with it. It's above my head sometimes. I second guess now my choice to go into musicology as a career field. there's a first time for everything i guess. maybe its just the boring euro-centric syllabus. she couldn't work Henry Cowell onto it??? we're spending so much time on the 2nd viennese school but no time on jazz and the impact that had on 20th century music??? i hope i'm not left hanging with one of those pink meat slabs hanging out of my mouth at the end of the semester (think dan akroyd dressed as santa in Trading Places).
